Proper sizing is the key to obtaining maximum performance from your Bennett Trim Tabs. The lift Trim Tabs produce is a function of their surface area. Bearing in mind that a Trim Tab with more surface area will produce lift more efficiently than a tab with less surface area.
A good starting point for sizing Bennett Trim Tabs is obtained by providing at least 1in. of span for every foot of boat length. Properly installed Trim Tabs have no effect on a boat’s performance when fully retracted. Generally, Trim Tabs are placed outboard, usually 3 – 4 in. from the chine. The further outboard trim tabs are placed the more force they will be able to exert when making side to side corrections. Do not install the Trim Tabs closer than 8 in. from the centerline of the nearest drive unit(s), because you will disturb the water flow to the drive unit(s).
